At the FH Kufstein Tirol booth, the children were fascinated by the 3D printer, which drew a chocolate figure on their butter cookies and brought their own ideas to life.

At Kids Innovation Day, Die Bäckerei – Kulturbackstube in Innsbruck became a meeting place for 650 explorers at the end of March. The University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol was also there and invited visitors to discover the latest technology in a playful way – with plenty of space to join in, try things out, and be amazed.

On 29 March 2025, Die Bäckerei – Kulturbackstube in Innsbruck became a place of curiosity, creativity and experimentation for around 650 visitors. At a total of 25 stations and children's talks on a specially constructed stage, where young explorers had their say, they were able to gain exciting insights into the world of tomorrow.

Kids Innovation Day is part of Tyrol Innovation Week 2025 and is presented by the Standortagentur Tirol (Tyrol Business Agency). It is organized by the event agency rauchzeichen.live, with the active support of 50 volunteers and 20 cooperation partners. Together, they have put together an event that will fill children's eyes with wonder, as the stations were impressive and offered numerous opportunities to get involved.

Lena Streli, BA, Head of Events, and Markus Ehrlenbach, MSC, Head of Labs at the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol, were right in the middle of the action, showing interested kids what can be done with a 3D printer from the university.

THE RUSH FOR 3D PRINTERS WAS HUGE

How does a 3D printer actually work? The principle is easy to explain: a digital model is turned into a physical object by precisely applying and solidifying materials such as plastic, metal, or resin.

Young and old alike were able to experience first-hand just how fascinating this looks in practice at the FH Kufstein Tirol stand. There, the in-house 3D printer placed chocolate on a butter cookie – layer by layer, much to the delight of the children. Young visitors were also able to take home Lego key rings and watch the printer in action as it formed objects. The 3D Doodler caused additional excitement: it allowed drawings to be made not only on paper but also in the air – either using templates or completely free from the imagination. The amazement was great.

SEEING CHILDREN GET EXCITED ABOUT RESEARCH IS A VERY SPECIAL MOMENT FOR ME.

RESEARCH UP CLOSE – SCHOOL VISITS AND EXHIBITIONS

The FH Kufstein Tirol participates in a wide range of trade fairs and events to give children and young people practical insights into research and technology. It also offers school classes the opportunity to visit the higher education institution and get to know the laboratories and technical facilities on site. Every corner offers opportunities to discover new things and inspire the researchers of tomorrow.
